Practice tools for a room with one laptop.
Twelve free tools built for how CUDL practices actually run: a projector, a timer, a stack of flow paper, and a coach who may not have debated. Everything works in the browser with nothing to install. Launched September 2026.
The tools
Each opens on its own page, so a coach can bookmark the one the team uses most. Speech times and rules follow the NSDA's 2026-27 season.
Speech timer
Speech order, times, and prep for every format, with a countdown visible from the back of the room. Press space to start and pause.
Every formatPrompt generator
Impromptu prompts, Extemp questions, World Schools motions, and Congress bill titles, each with the right timer.
Speech, WSD, CongressRebuttal drill
Draw an argument from the 2026-27 topics or a generic bank, answer it in sixty seconds, then see three coached responses.
LD, PF, Policy, BQWeighing drill
Two impacts, thirty seconds, one weighing statement. Then the five mechanisms to check yourself against.
LD, PFVocabulary flashcards
Forty core terms plus a deck for each current topic, in a flip deck you can shuffle, with known and still-learning tracking.
Every formatRules quiz
Ten questions on speech times and rules across every format, graded instantly with the right answers shown.
Every formatPrintable flow sheets
Flow templates for Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, and Congress, formatted to print on letter paper.
LD, PF, Policy, CongressPractice resolution bank
Past NSDA resolutions and CUDL practice resolutions for writing cases and running scrimmages on topics nobody is prepped on.
LD, PF, Policy, BQCase builder
Fill in the template for an LD, PF, or Policy case; it assembles the case, counts the words, and tells you whether it fits the speech time. Saves on your device.
LD, PF, PolicyDigital flow
A flow sheet you type into, one column per speech, that saves itself and prints or exports.
LD, PF, Policy, CongressCard cutter
Paste a passage, fill in the citation, mark the words you will read, and keep a saved evidence file you can export.
LD, PF, PolicyPractice log
Every tool records here: streaks, weekly totals, quiz scores, flashcard mastery, and a weekly goal. Stored on your device only.
Every formatA thirty-minute practice with these tools
- 5 minutes: everyone draws a prompt and gives a one-minute speech. Prompt generator, Impromptu setting.
- 10 minutes: rebuttal drill in pairs. Draw, answer for sixty seconds, compare, swap.
- 5 minutes: weighing drill as a group; the coach picks the best statement.
- 10 minutes: a half round (constructives only) on the speech timer, flowed on printed sheets.
The practice round guide covers the full ninety-minute version.
For coaches and captains
All banks (prompts, arguments, terms, quiz questions) live in one readable file, js/practice.js, so a coach can add the team's own material. The flow sheets print from the browser. Nothing here stores student data.
Want a tool that is not here? Suggest it. Requests from partner schools go first.
New tools and guides by email
One email when something new is published, about twice a month in season.
Practice is better with a coach in the room.
CUDL coaches run practices at partner schools every week of the season, free of charge.
